What began as a small passion project in the soil has grown into a much larger, living mlk̓ʷúlaʔxʷ - ecosystem. We honour the early days of planting and dreaming, and feel deeply excited for what nsisúlaʔxʷ is becoming and all the seasons still ahead.
The nsisúlaʔxʷ Food Forest is a living, land-based classroom and gathering place. Here, food plants, medicines, pollinators, and people grow in relationship with one another.
Rooted in Syilx knowledge and stewardship, the food forest offers space to learn about seasonal cycles, plant relatives, and the responsibilities that come with tending land.
Whether you visit for a guided tour, a workshop, or quiet time on the paths, nsisúlaʔxʷ invites you to slow down, listen closely, and experience what it means to be in good relationship with the more-than-human world.

what is the nsisúlaʔxʷ Food Forest?
-
We keep our approach simple, thoughtful, and grounded in relationship to the land. In the food forest, everything begins with listening to the land, the seasons, and the people who gather here. From there, we keep adapting with the place and with our dreams: reshaping beds, adding new forest zones, opening up trails, and adjusting how we tend each area. It’s an ongoing, responsive process that grows into work we can stand behind and feel proud to share. -
Integrity, creativity, and care guide how we tend this place. nsisúlaʔxʷ is an organic, Indigenous food forest where we live and practice Syilx protocols, and ways of knowing and being on the land. These aren’t just nice words. They show up in how we plant, harvest, and share; how we make decisions and how we stay accountable to the land, our neighbours, and the more-than-human relatives who live here.

What began as a small passion project in the soil has grown into something much more. We honour the years of quiet tending that brought nsisúlaʔxʷ to life, and we’re deeply excited for what’s still ahead. What sets this place apart isn’t just how we plant or design, but the intention underneath it. We take time to listen, to observe, and to shape each area with purpose. For over 14 years, Mariel has held a vision of creating a space where all who are welcomed on the land can learn with us, share with us, and experience our relationships with food, story, and all forms of art.
Across our 10 acres, nsisúlaʔxʷ is home to more than one hundred food and medicine plants, and we’re still just at the beginning of what this Indigenous food forest can become. To keep growing, we need more hands, more plants, and better ways to hold water on the land. We’re looking for volunteers, plant donations, support for water collection (tanks, barrels, irrigation), and in-kind services related to permaculture, Indigenous agriculture, and food-forest design. If you feel called to help, there’s a place for you here.
